Here are some testimonials on the 35th anniversary by our members (:

" This is my first time performing on the Esplanade Concert Hall and I feel that the concert was great. This is my first experience playing a solo in a big hall like this, I felt scared and nervous at first but after that, I felt satisfied and happy. At the same time, I enjoyed myself there. This experience had made me more confident than before. "
- Leong Jun Lin 3E3

" 35th Anniversary Concert was the first ever concert I performed in, therefore naturally I felt nervous. However, at the same time, we all had fun and we shined on stage. It was a wonderful experience that not many will have a chance to do so, hence we should always remember that it was the sirs and teachers who made all these possible for us. "
- Ng Wen Hui 2E2

" As a sec 1 band member, I felt very nervous performing with the band for the first time. After so much practices for the concert , our hardwork has really paid off. The performance was a great experience for all of us, it made us realised lots of things eg. how important discipline is and teamwork. I will never regret joining the band as it is such an awesome cca. "

The Journey to SYF 2009

Henderson Band has been really busy for the past few weeks. They have been busy preparing for the upcoming SYF in April.

The details for SYF 2009 is as followed:
Band no: 109
Venue: Singapore Conference Hall (SCH)
Reporting time: 2pm
Show time: 2.45pm
Pieces playing: Set piece - Overture No. 1 for Wind Bands by Dr. Kelly Tang
Choice Piece - A Huntingdon Celebration by Philip Sparke
For the past few weeks, HSSBAND has been going for Exchanges with various schools to gain exposures so that they can be more confident in their playing. The Band went to various schools like Loyang Secondary and Zheng Hua Secondary for exchanges with other bands.

Besides going to other schools for exchanges, we had hosted our own bi-annual mass exchange in Henderson School Hall on 19 march 2009. There were a total of 10 bands, including Henderson band, for this bi-annual exchange. The 9 bands were Kranji Symphonic Band, Yuying Concert Band, Canberra Concert Band, Bedok Green Concert Band, Nan Hua High Concert Band, Gan Eng Seng Military Band, Manjusri Concert Band, Tanglin Concert Band and Changkat Changi Concert Band. During the exchange, all bands showcased their set piece and choice piece. Henderson Band members had learnt alot from this exchange and thus, they had improved tremendously through all these exchanges with various schools. Not only that, hssband alumni came back during this bi-annual mass exchange to help out. The alumni were Eddy, Kenneth, Keith Chan, May Lee, Aishah, Liyana, Tina, Ruiling, Doris, Kin Mun. They helped us by ushering bands during the exchange. This exchange not only bring the standard of the band to a greater heights but also helped by gathering alumni back to help the band, which they have been with for the past 4 to 5 years during their secondary school life. Also, our very own future generations, sec 1s, helped out by ushering the bands too!By doing so, the sec 1s had learnt alot from the culture of hssband and thus, making them more interested in band. We would also like to extend our gratitude to HSSPA crews for helping us out during the exchange and kimberly for allowing us to borrow walkie talkies from the prefectorial board. THANK YOU!
The band also performed during the school's annual speech day on 12 march 2009. Through this performance, the band had a taste of performing infront of hundreds of audience. Thus, helping them to gain more exposures and confidence in their playing.
Also, on 3 march 2009, the band went for SYF soundcheck at Singapore Conference Hall. During the 1 hour rehearsal in SCH, the band gained alot of experience playing in the hall. SCH is not an easy hall for bands to play in. Thus, during that 1 hour, our band director, Mr Badrul Hisham, re-shuffled the seating arrangement so that the band will sound better.
During the 1 week holiday, the band members really put in alot of hardwork. They only have 3 days of rest (including sat and sun) and yet, they persevere and strive for the best when they are on stage and having practices. This attitude from the members are very encouraging as this shows that our band members does not give up easily.
It's 2 more weeks to SYF 2009. Let's hope that this year, hssband will get a good result as an award to the band directors, teachers and membrs who have put in so much effort for this syf.
Let's persevere and continue to strive for the very best!
You can do it, HENDERSON BAND!
ONE BAND, ONE SOUND, ONE FAMILY
